Programs beginning Monday, June 25

June 25-29, full day (grades 3-5): Programming - Scratch

One week; 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

This course is designed for campers in grades 3-5 with no programming experience. The camp will use Scratch programming language developed by the MIT Media Lab. This will be the first introduction to object-based programming. This class will build a strong foundation in computer science principles and concepts all while creating animations and video games.

June 25-29, Full day (Grades 3-5): Spheros and Drones

One week; 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

This course is designed for campers in grades 3-5 with no programming experience. The camp will use various programming language designed to work with real world objects, including Parrot drones, Spheros and Ollies. This course will provide an easy entry to the world of computer science principles and concepts using iPads to create and interact.

June 25-29, Half Day Mornings (grades K-2): Programming - Scratch Jr.

One week; 8:30 - 11:30 a.m.

This camp is designed specifically for campers in kindergarten to second grade to introduce coding, the new literacy for the modern world. Campers will learn to code using Scratch Jr. Campers will be using symbol-based user interface to teach their characters to behave in a manner that they want, creating stories and interactive media.

June 25 - July 6, Half Day Afternoons (grades 6-8): Programming - Alice

Two weeks; 1:00. - 4:00 p.m.

This course is designed for campers in grades 6-8 with limited or no programming experience. The camp will use Alice programming language developed by Carnegie Mellon University. Campers will be programming in a 3D object environment with tiles that correspond to standard statements in programming languages such as Java and C++.

Programs beginning Monday, July 2

July 2-6, Full day (grades 6-8): Programming - Web Development

One week; 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

This camp is designed for campers in grades 6-8 with some programming experience and is interested in web development. The camp will cover HTML, CSS, JavaScript and campers will work on a number of practical web projects using Github for code sharing and team development.

July 2-6, Full day (grades 3-5): Robotics 1 - Mindstorms EV3

One week; 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

This course is designed for campers in grades 3-5 with no robotics experience. The camp will use Lego Mindstorms EV3 robots to give the first introduction to robotics. Campers will work with structurally-sound building techniques, different types of sensors and motors, and basic robotics programming using the EV3 software.

July 2-6, Half Day Mornings (grades k-2): Robotics - WEDO 2.0 Animals & Adventures

One week; 8:30 - 11:30 a.m.

This course is designed for campers in kindergarten to second grade. Campers will build, program, and play with various themed robots. The campers create various wild animal robots such as a racing frogs, silly butterflies, and roaring dinosaurs. The campers will also participate in adventure stories.

Programs beginning Monday, July 9

July 9-13, Full day (grades 6-8): Robotics 2 - Mindstorms EV3

One week; 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

This course is designed for campers in grades 6-8 with some robotics experience. The camp will reinforce basic engineering skills, with a strong emphasis on programming. Campers will be learning from the basic programming constructs. Campers will build advanced robots with custom programs using the EV3 software.

July 9-20, Full Day (Grades 6-8): Programming - Java

Two weeks; 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

This course is designed for campers in grades 6-8 who want to learn the Java programming language. It is recommended that campers have had some prior knowledge of programming concepts; however, it is not mandatory. Campers will learn object oriented programming concepts by working on mini projects first. They will learn to create their own classes and learn the concepts of inheritance and polymorphism during the second week by working on independent projects. Later the campers will create groups to team teach each other and learn the concepts of inheritance and polymorphism. Campers will also work on independent projects.

July 9-13, Half Day Mornings (grades 3-5): Programming - Hopscotch

One week; 8:30 - 11:30 a.m.

This camp is designed specifically for campers in grades 3-5 and is the third of the enrichment programming camps. Campers will be using Hopscotch. Hopscotch is a powerful drag and drop programming environment. It facilitates learning simple to complex programming concepts such as sequencing, abstraction, values, and conditionals. If they can think it, they can make it.

July 9-August 3, Half Day Afternoons (Grades 6-8): Programming - Python

Four weeks; 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.

This course is designed for campers in grades 6-8 who want to learn the Python programming language. It is recommended that campers have had some prior knowledge of programming concepts; however, it is not mandatory. Campers will be working on projects incrementally utilizing the concepts they have learned. Campers will also work on independent projects and learn the idea of abstraction – the process of taking away or removing characteristics from something in order to reduce it to a set of essential characteristics.

Programs beginning Monday, July 16

July 16-20, Full Day (Grades 3-5): App Development - Game Salad

One week; 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

This course is designed for campers in grades 3-5 with some programming experience. The camp will use GameSalad to give the first experience of creating games for mobile platforms. Campers will build a foundation in basic computer science concepts while creating apps. Some camper apps have been accepted and published in the Apple App Store.

July 16-20, Half Day Mornings (Grades K-2): Robotics - WEDO 2.0 Motors & Mechanisms

One week; 8:30 - 11:30 a.m.

This course is designed for campers in kindergarten to second grade. Campers will build, program, and play with various themed robots. The campers will experience various robots such as helicopter, drag racer, and earthquake simulators and work with mechanism themed robots.

Programs beginning Monday, July 23

July 23-27, Full Day (Grades 6-8): App Development - App Inventor

One week; 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

This camp is designed specifically for campers in grades 6-8 with experience in programming. The camp will use MIT App Inventor to develop Android applications that will be published in the Google Play Store. Campers will experience a real time process of creating an app, testing, debugging and publishing.

July 23-27, Full Day (Grades 6-8): Game Development - Game Maker

One week; 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

This course is designed for campers in grades 6-8 with experience in programming. The camp will use Game Maker Studio to give a first experience of creating games, which might be published for various platforms including PlayStation, Xbox, Windows, Mac and mobile devices. Campers will learn about various game design and development process.

July 23-27, Half Day Mornings (Grades K-5): Engineering - Inventor School

One week; 8:30 - 11:30 a.m.

This camp is designed specifically for boys and girls in in kindergarten to fifth grade to introduce electrical engineering using Makey Makey, an invention kit that can turn everyday objects into interact-able components for the computer. Campers will be able to make things such as banana piano, paper game controllers, play-doh keyboards, and human synthesizers.

Programs Beginning Monday, July 30

July 30 - August 3, Full Day (Grades 6-8): App Development - Swift

One week; 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

This course is designed for campers in grades 6-8 with some programming experience. The camp will use Apple's Swift programming language to develop iOS apps while learning real time process of creating an app, testing, debugging and publishing to the Apple App Store.

July 30 - August 3, Full Day (Grades 3-5): App Development - Touch Develop

One week; 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

This course is designed for campers in grades 3-5 with some programming experience. The camp will use Touch Develop created by Microsoft Research. This will allow campers to create apps for multiple platforms. Campers will use their programming experience to create apps for submission to different app stores.

July 30 - August 3, Half Day Mornings (Grades K-2): Robotics - WEDO 2.0 Challenges

One week; 8:30 - 11:30 a.m.

This course is designed for campers in kindergarten to second grade who have completed Animals & Adventures and Motors & Mechanisms. Campers will be challenged with different activities and puzzles to build, program, and play with various robots.
