Need-based aid

Peddie School seeks motivated, talented and engaged students who distinguish themselves through their excitement, curiosity and character, regardless of their family's ability to pay. Peddie is committed to enrolling the most outstanding applicants and creating the best possible educational opportunities for them. We recognize that a Peddie education is a substantial investment in your child's future. Financial need should never discourage a student from applying for admission.

In 1993, Ambassador Walter Annenberg '27 gave Peddie the largest financial gift ever given to an independent boarding school. The larger portion of this gift endows our financial aid budget of over 7 million dollars for the 2016-17 school year which is distributed to approximately 40 percent of Peddie students, with awards ranging from $1000 up to the full cost of tuition, depending on the financial needs of the family. These students come from a wide range of geographic, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. Intended as a supplement to family resources, financial aid awards are made not only to families whose ability to pay school costs is extremely limited, but also to those of somewhat more substantial means who may need only a modest subsidy to meet Peddie's tuition requirements.

In accordance with the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) "Principles of Good Practices," we believe that the primary responsibility for funding a child's education lies with the family. As such, we expect that each family will fund the child's education to the extent that they are able. Our financial aid program is designed to aid families after they have considered all of their own resources.

As a result, Financial Aid at Peddie School is based on each family's ability to pay. To assess financial need, we require families to submit a Parents' Financial Statement to the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS). Families must also submit a copy of their most recent filed IRS income tax form and their most recent W-2 forms and all schedules/statements.

Peddie's Financial Aid process is separate from the admission process. Admission applications are read without regard for a family's ability to pay. Only in the final phase is the selection process "need aware" as the Admission Committee weighs its decisions against available funds.
