Zatna Tech Camps
Peddie School is proud to welcome back Zatna, an educational organization that specializes in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Technology, Science and Entrepreneurship academic programs and summer camps. In Summer 2019, Zatna is offering a variety of full and half-day programs for campers from Kindergarten through grade 12 covering topics in programming, web development, robotics and engineering.
While Zatna programs are not run or managed by Peddie School, we are thrilled to have this strong program using our facilities and offering an alternative program.
Zatna programs can be used by themselves or as an alternative afternoon activity for a student whose Summer School experience ends at 12:30 PM.

This course is designed specifically for campers with experience in programming. The camp will use MIT App Inventor to develop Android applications that will be published in the Google Play Store. Campers will experience a real-time process of creating an app, testing, debugging and publishing.

July 1-5, Full day (grades 3-5): Robotics 101: Fundamentals of Robotics using Lego Mindstorms EV3
One week; 9:00 - 4:00 p.m.
This camp is designed for campers with no robotics experience. The camp will use Lego Mindstorms EV3 robots to give an introduction to robotics. Campers will work with structurally-sound building techniques, different types of sensors and motors, and some basic robotics programming using the EV3 software.

Two weeks; 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
This camp is designed for campers who want to learn the Python programming language. It is recommended that campers have had some prior knowledge of programming concepts; however, it is not mandatory. Campers will be working on projects incrementally utilizing the concepts they have learned. Campers will also work on independent projects and learn the idea of abstraction - the process of taking away or removing characteristics from something in order to reduce it to a set of essential characteristics.

This camp is designed for campers with some programming experience. The camp will use GameSalad to give the first experience of creating games for mobile platforms. Campers will build a foundation in basic computer science concepts while creating apps. Some camper apps have been accepted and published in the Apple App Store.

July 8-12, half-day (Grades K-2): Electrical Engineering 001: Inventor School (Makey Makey & LittleBits)
One week, 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
This camp is designed to introduce electrical engineering using Makey Makey, an invention kit that can turn everyday objects into interact-able components for the computer. Campers will be able to make things such as banana piano, paper game controllers, play-doh keyboards, and human synthesizers. Campers will also explore LittleBits modular electronics.

July 8-12, Half day (Grades 6-8): Intro to Computer Science using Project-based Learning
One week, 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
This course is designed for campers with limited or no programming experience. This course will take the students through the exploration, discovery, understanding and application of Computer Science by engaging in project-based activities. Students will have the opportunity to tackle Computer Science from the areas that excite them. Students are free to take on building an app, a program to a game in an academic environment.

This camp is designed for campers in kindergarten through second grade. Campers will build, program and play with various themed robots. The campers create various wild animal robots such as racing frogs, silly butterflies and roaring dinosaurs. The campers will also participate in adventure stories.

July 15-19, Half Day (Grades 6-8): Intro to Electrical Engineering using Project-based Learning
One week, 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
This course is designed for campers with limited or no electrical engineering experience. This course will take the students through the exploration, discovery, understanding and application of Electrical Engineering by engaging in project-based activities. This course will focus on advanced projects using different kits including LittleBits and Raspberry Pi. Students will explore different inventions and complete a final project.

This camp is designed specifically for campers in kindergarten to second grade to introduce coding, the new literacy for the modern world. Campers will learn to code using Scratch Jr. Campers will be using a symbol-based user interface to teach their characters to behave in a manner that they want, creating stories and interactive media.

July 22-26, Full day (Grades 3-5): Programming 102: Programming IRL using Spheros & Drones
One week, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
This course is designed for campers with no programming experience. The camp will use various programming language designed to work with real-world objects, including Parrot drones, Spheros and Ollies. This course will provide an easy entry to the world of computer science principles and concepts using iPads to create and interact.

This course is designed for campers with limited or no statistics experience. This course will take the students through the exploration, discovery, understanding and application of Data Science by engaging in project-based activities. Students will get an introduction to R programming language for effective data analysis. The course will also cover some statistical tools and testing methods. Campers will get to work on real analytical projects and use the skills back in school.

Two weeks, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
This course is designed for campers who want to learn the Java programming language. It is recommended that campers have have some prior knowledge of programming concepts; however, it is not mandatory. Campers will learn object-oriented programming concepts by working on mini projects first. They will learn to create their own classes and learn the concepts of inheritance and polymorphism during the second week by working on independent projects. Later the campers will create groups to team teach each other and learn the concepts of inheritance and polymorphism. Campers will also work on independent projects.

The course will cover HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and campers will work on a number of practical web projects using Github for code sharing and team development to develop a live website in the cloud for their final project.

This is a week-long program for advanced campers who have completed at least four full-day camps. The campers will dive deep and discover different elements of developing and formulating ideas. The campers use their entrepreneurial spirit to develop viable solutions and possible business plans. The campers prepare and deliver fine-tuned pitch and presentation.
