John H. Jefferies, Class of 1919

Jack Jefferies’ exceptional basketball and baseball learning skills which he put to such good use at Peddie eventually enabled him to become one of the best basketball coaches in the East.

He earned numerous varsity letters as a member of the football, basketball, and baseball teams in an era when returning World War I veterans substantially raised the overall level of competition. Jack captained the basketball and baseball teams his senior year at Peddie. After graduation, he attended Princeton where he once again captained both the basketball and baseball teams ‒ the baseball team was one of the best in Princeton’s history.

Jack became a teacher and coach at the Hill School before returning to Princeton University as a coach in the baseball and basketball programs. Using the lessons learned on the athletic fields at Peddie throughout his career, Jack had a positive impact on athletes at all levels.
