1987 Field Hockey Team

Unbelievable is a way to describe the 1987 Peddie Field Hockey season. The 1987 team accomplished more than nay other previous field hockey team in Peddie’s history. After an early loss to Lawrenceville, the gritty Falcon team scored a sensational victory beating the undefeated Lawrenceville Prep Team to qualify for the State Championship Finals.

The team went on to share the State Prep Championship in a final match that neither team wanted to lose. After several periods of overtime play, co-champions were named.

Because of its great spirit and fair play, the 1987 Field Hockey Team drew incredible support from the administration, faculty members, parents, and fellow students. Their co-championship was an award every team member played a key role in achieving.

Various newspaper and organizations heaped postseason recognition on the Falcon players. Allison Martinelli, McHala Williams, and Angela Heap were chosen to represent Peddie as members of the Mercer County All-Prep Championship Team. The championship season ended with "icing on the cake” as the team topped Blair, 2-0, in the final game of the season.

With their enormous determination and outstanding teamwork, the 1987 Field Hockey team sowed the seeds for a very successful Peddie program that has continued to produce great players.
