Mathematical Physics

Terms: 3
Grades: 10,11,12,PG
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Algebra II

A laboratory-based course surveying the main ideas of “classical” physics: motion, force, and energy; waves and sound and light and optics. Extensive use is made of personal computers, both in lab as data collection and analysis tools and in class for model-building, simulations, and tutorials. Problem-solving is emphasized throughout the course, and students who enroll in it should be comfortable with mathematical manipulations. Mathematical Physics is designed for students interested in pursuing engineering, life science, or premedical curricula in college.

NOTE:  In 2017-2018 a pair of Calculus and Math Physics sections will be coordinated so that the subjects are covered to take advantage of the strong links between them.  Placement of students who enroll in both Calculus and Math Physics into this coordinated program will be based on schedule, though students will be invited to express their preference and an effort will be made to accommodate these requests.
