Spanish V

Terms: 3
Grades: 10,11,12,PG
Prerequisite: Spanish IV or Spanish IV Honors and recommendation from the department.

Knowing how to speak Spanish (truly) expands one’s personal universe. It completely transforms any travel experience. It can also be seen as a vehicle: to learn about other cultures, to try new disciplines, or simply to help others. This course teaches students oral and writing skills through experiential learning. Taking Paulo Cohelo’s classic book The Alchemist as a starting point, we will learn Spanish through discussing classic films, preparing oral presentations, drawing, painting, making small sculptures, and through teaching  ESL to Spanish speaking learners. Additionally, we will see the artwork of some of the best artists from Latin America and Spain during our three visits to museums in NYC. Anyone who has enjoyed a conversation in Spanish, or dreamed of it, or read parts of Don Quijote de La Mancha should find this action-packed course fascinating.
