Senior Seminar in Contemporary Literature: “The Undiscovered Country”

This course will explore two of the most critically acclaimed novels of the 21st century: Junot Diaz’s The Brief, Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, and Chimamanda Adichie’s Americanah. Discussion topics will include: the immigrant experience in America; issues of race and gender, at home and abroad; uses of humor in fiction; political implications of fictional storytelling; and the ways in which both Diaz and Adichie define this American century.
