Advanced Architecture

Terms: 2
Grades : 11,12,PG
Prerequisite: Architecture

Advanced Architecture challenges graduates of the introductory two-term Architecture class with more complex, three-dimensional projects in which AutoCAD software is the most important design tool.  By examining context, the relationship between buildings and the urban fabric in which they are located, students become aware of and responsive to the layered issues involved in architectural work.
The course also explores a brief history of urban planning, from the Romans’ castrum to Pierre L’Enfant’s design for Washington, DC, and finishing with Lucio Costa’s master plan for Brasilia. We study and visit such remarkable urban spaces as New York City’s Central Park, High Line, and Broadway during our two field trips.
