AP Physics I

AP Physics I

Terms: 3
Grades: 10,11,12
Prerequisite:

  • One year of Chemistry with a minimum average of B+ for the year (B for Chemistry Honors);
  • A- average in Mathematical Problem Solving 2 Advanced, or Precalculus or Calculus; OR
  • B average in Mathematical Problem Solving 2 Honors, Precalculus Advanced or AP Calculus;
  • Sophomores who wish to take this class should also have a B+ average in their other courses.

In this course students will learn the fundamental concepts in physics and then use those concepts to describe and predict events, natural or otherwise, by utilizing the mathematical relationships between motion, force, energy and time. Physics Honors is designed for students with strong aptitude for and interest in the sciences and who have strong ability in mathematics. Physics Honors is a survey course of the concepts of classical physics, including Newtonian Mechanics, and Electricity and Magnetism. This course provides a strong foundation for further study of physics in one of Peddie’s more advanced-level physics courses and also in coursework at the college level.

Any student interested in taking AP Physics C should take Physics Honors if they meet the criteria. Otherwise they make take Math Physics and will need an A average to take AP Physics C in the future.
