This is a three-term class. Physics introduces students to three 'Big Ideas' in our understanding of the physical world. In the fall term, the course focuses on Motion and Newton's Laws, including gravitation. In the winter term, we study Energy from both a scientific perspective and from a societal perspective. In the spring, we look at Light and its many behaviors. Our approach to each of these topics is mainly through laboratory investigations, and we often use labs in an exploratory way at the start of a new topic. Our understanding of the ideas we encounter in Physics is earned mainly in lab before appropriate mathematical equations are used to complete the picture.
