Course Description

Applied Biology: Cell & Molecular

Terms: 1 (not offered every term).
Grades: 11, 12, PG
Prerequisites: One year of Biology and Chemistry with a minimum average of B- for the year.

Applied Biology will be project-based, with each term having a different focus. In the fall, students will review cell and molecular biology through a series of smaller self-guided laboratory exercises. The winter will focus primarily on biotechnology. Students will design and execute an independent research project, all while utilizing state-of-the-art biotechnology tools. Finally, in the spring term, students will work through the evolution of all animals, and their respective derived traits, through the practice of dissection.

Note: This is the first in a series of three one-term courses. Applied Biology: Biotechnology will follow in the winter, and Applied Biology: Evolution will take place in the spring. Students can take one, two, or all three courses.
