Course Description

Latin III

Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12, PG
Prerequisite: Latin II 

The fall term covers a review of second-year grammar with emphasis on such topics as irregular verbs and uses of the dative. The story of Jason and the Argonauts is read in Latin, with background work on mythology and the nature of ancient epic. The winter term focuses on Caesar’s campaigns against the Helvetians from his De Bello Gallico, with background work on Roman geography and military history. In the spring term, students will be introduced to Latin poetry through readings from Vergil’s epic poem the Aeneid.
