How does a set designer conceptualize a play? How does a set designer work with a director? And how about the lighting, costume and sound designers? What about the practical considerations such as budget, space and time? This course is a how-to for anyone interested in learning the basics of set design for the theater. We will sketch, draft and build models to help us understand a set designer's process. We will welcome professional designers for guest lectures, lessons and critiques. We will develop our unique sense of design through a series of physical projects, and the course will culminate in the creation of a design for Peddie's Winter Musical production! No previous experience necessary.
