Course Description

Architecture

Terms: 2
Grades: 10, 11, 12

We spend most of our lives in buildings. We make our homes in them. We go to school, work, and dream in them. But why and how did architects start making buildings? How did they learn to make them stronger, bigger, and more beautiful?  In this course we will develop the ability to deconstruct and purposefully critique architecture around us. From Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater to Le Corbusier’s Ronchamp Chapel, we will learn the stories of dozens of remarkable buildings and the architects who designed them. We will also develop skills in freehand and architectural drawing, computer-aided design and model-building as we respond creatively to architectural challenges.

Note: This is a two term course (fall and winter).
