Grades: 10, 11, 12, PG
This class builds on the skills learned in Theater Foundations, and is open to any student who would like to learn more about acting for the stage. In the first term, students learn how to prepare a role, to create a character and to analyze dramatic text. Classes will include improvisational games, acting exercises and will culminate in the performance of scenes taken from contemporary dramatic literature. In the second term, students will delve deeper into the physical world of character development, utilizing techniques that lead to strong and interesting choices, as they unlock the pathways to more dynamic and authentic dramatic performances. As such, students will experience a wide range of dramatic material, acting styles, and performance considerations. They will explore a variety of techniques including the work of Uta Hagen, Viola Spolin, and Michael Chekhov to name a few.
Note: This is a two term course (fall and winter).
