Language

We build on our diverse talents, perspectives and experiences to instill an enthusiasm for active language acquisition at all levels.

Our curriculum offers 25 courses in four foreign languages – Chinese, French, Latin and Spanish – and includes honors and advanced placement-level classes. You'll develop your listening, speaking, reading and writing skills while expanding your knowledge of other cultures.

There are opportunities for authentic learning experiences that will help you appreciate the connections between language and culture. Develop a pen-pal relationship with a student from EFZ, our sister school in Shanghai; work in our art studio as part of your Spanish cultural studies; or participate in our School Year Abroad (SYA) program in France, Spain, China or Italy. For complete cultural immersion, our Signature Experience in Language and our Signature Experience in Asian Studies allows you to explore other cultures through research and travel.

Giving students insight into the life and people of another country creates a context for the practice of grammar and vocabulary and translates to a much stronger sense of purpose and connection.” Jose Ruiz, language department chair
