Relief-Based Algorithm Score Ranking for Detecting High Order Epistatic Interactions

I worked remotely with Dr. Urbanowicz at The University of Pennsylvania, where I worked on Machine Learning in Bioinformatics Data mining. My project was on Relief-based feature selection, which essentially tells the machine learning algorithm which features in the dataset are important and which are not, and my goal was to improve these algorithms to detect important features in certain datasets that it could not before. Through the research experience, I gained a deeper understanding of the field of computational biology, as well as the rigor of the scientific process. I even got a chance to write a paper at the end!

It was exciting to set out and draw conclusions with no answers except the data that was generated. Suyu (Michael) Ye ’21
