When Peddie’s trajectory towards online learning became apparent, Craig Dale immediately reached out to Director of Academic Technology Emily Miller to offer assistance and expertise. “Teaching online is a unique challenge,” said Dale, who has extensive experience teaching online, “and I knew that I wanted to help my colleagues adapt to it in any way I could.”

Dale shared his wealth of knowledge with colleagues in the form of a document summarizing his experiences teaching online, covering everything from strategies for engaging students from afar to the use of humor in the internet classroom.

For Dale, online teaching isn’t a unique opportunity, but Peddie’s community is. “These students ‘show up’ to class ready to jump in and learn. We are a faculty of big personalities who read the room, adjust, and keep the students engaged. I think the greatest challenge has been translating the Peddie classroom experience down to the webcam. So far, it’s working.”
