Analyzing Melatonin Samples in Zebrafish through MATLAB and R Studio

I worked virtually with the Pack Lab at the University of Pennsylvania, using RStudio and MATLAB Programming environments to graph charts regarding the relationship of melatonin and zebrafish, while using different samples of melatonin, each with their respective effects on the fish. The results included graphs which visually allowed the researchers to fully the see the effects of the experiment. The lab plans to use results of experiments such as these and apply it to humans, as zebrafish and humans have similar DNA due to similar evolutionary development in the past. Hopefully, research like this can be used to tackle the widespread problems of various uncurable sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea and insomnia in humans.

Data Analysis, while extremely interesting, is also very challenging. Whatever your project might be, don't be afraid to ask questions to your PI or Grad student, as this will add to your intellectual and personal growth during EXP. Sanketh Gudapati ’21
