Analyzing Fungal Infections in the Central Nervous System
I worked virtually with the Shinohara Lab at Duke University to determine the role of central nervous system cells during fungal infections by cryptococcus neoformans. My project involved analyzing images of infected mouse brains using computer software to better understand immune cell recruitment during early infection. Although the circumstances were different than we originally planned, I was able to learn various lab techniques such as PCR and tissue staining to help the lab as they continue to research the body's immune response to this fatal infection.
