String Quartet finalists in prestigious competition

As finalists of the 37th Annual Young Musicians Concert, the string quartet of senior musicians Mia Huang (violin), Kyle Huang (viola), Uma Mani (violin) and Sophomore Kathleen Zhang (cello) would have played at Lincoln Center this spring. Instead, their live performance was streamed by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center on April 30.

Coached by Dr. Yevgeniy Dyo, the quartet entered the high-level chamber music competition in January, submitting a three-minute video of their performance of Dmitri Shostakovich's Quartet No. 8 in C minor for Strings, Op 110. Their submission qualified them for the regional performance at Drew University on March 12, where they were selected as one of the eleven finalists.

"These musicians and their coach worked very hard on this project," said Alan Michaels, Arts Department Chair and Director of Music at Peddie. "they should be congratulated for their exceptional work."

The Young Musicians Concert is sponsored by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and provides advanced high school instrumentalists the opportunity to perform in a concert professionally produced at professional home-region venues and at Lincoln Center.
