Peddie artists receive top regional honors

Clara Choi '22

Clara Choi ’21 and Sean Lee ’22 won top honors in the Regional Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. 

Choi’s painting, “MEN WANT ME AND WOMEN WANT TO BE ME,” received Gold Key distinction, reserved for the most outstanding student artists in New Jersey. Her painting also earned “Best-of-Show”, which makes Choi one of five regional nominees eligible for the national American Voices & Visions Medal (awarded June 2020 at Carnegie Hall in New York City).

Lee received six Gold Key awards in the following categories: Painting, Digital Art, Mixed Media (2) and Architecture & Industrial Design (2). Both Choi and Lee’s works will be judged by a panel of creative industry experts for National Medal consideration.

The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards have celebrated teen artists and writers since 1923. This year, nearly 340,000 works of art and writing were juried by luminaries in the visual and literary arts, who looked for works that best exemplify originality, technical skill and the emergence of a personal voice or vision.
