Sarah Somers has been a member of the History Department since 2006. She has served as department chair and assistant coach for varsity field hockey and varsity softball. Throughout her tenure, she has served on the Head’s Advisory Committee, the Faculty Student Senate, the Athletic Committee and the Prize Committee. Somers currently serves as a sophomore academic advisor, is a member of CORE and also mentors newly hired faculty in their transition to Peddie. She received her Bachelor of Arts in history from Moravian College and her Master of Arts in secondary education and history from The Catholic University of America. Somers teaches Modern Global History, The Contemporary History of East Asia, The History of Politics and Sports, Twentieth Century Foreign Policy and Race, Ethnicity and Migration (a class she created). She has a special interest in the global refugee crisis and contemporary African history. Somers is an advisor for gold key, lives on campus and is a part of the Caspersen Dorm faculty team.
