| Join us for the Honors Thesis art show: Friday, May 4 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
In both curricular and co-curricular offerings, the Arts Department encourages students to find their own creative voices and to explore the cultural landscape they inhabit. During the class day in our arts studios, black box theater classroom and choral and orchestra rooms, an average of more than 300 Peddie students take part in arts courses. All incoming freshmen participate in a year-long Foundations class which includes a term each of music, theater and visual art, and upperclassmen may choose from among a wide variety of sequential electives in all three areas. Arts education continues after hours as students create, practice and rehearse, preparing for the public exhibitions and performances that are a cornerstone of our dynamic experiential program.

We believe that each student has the ability to be an artist, and our rich curriculum includes such hands-on courses as drawing, painting, photography, digital graphics, and video designed to nurture that creativity. Go to Visual Arts |
In addition to a major stage production each term, the Peddie theater program offers Theater Foundations and a variety of electives including Honors Theater Ensemble for advanced students.

Mariboe Gallery: “Leonard Ross: Photographs of Social Change” - Curated by Daniel S. Palmer 6/1/2012 to 6/7/2012
Leonard Ross (1927-2008) was a distinguished photographer whose documentation of Bethlehem Steel Company construction projects were exhibited in the Metropolitan Museum and the Museum of Modern Art. In his earliest photographs of local subjects, taken in New York City and central New Jersey, he quickly displayed a true sensitivity for the medium. His mentor, the renowned artist Ben Shahn, imparted the valuable techniques he used to warmly depict his subjects. Ross’ concern for the people he photographed was fostered by his membership in the Photo League, a cooperative of socially engaged photographers, which he formally joined in 1947. Through this association, he was greatly influenced by many of America’s most important photographers. Together, they shared the deeply felt belief that the camera had the power to transform society. Accordingly, this exhibition of an understudied photographer is produced with the hopes of inspiring the next generation of budding artists to look more closely at the world around them. Opening reception: Friday, June 1, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m., with a talk at 7:00 p.m.
