Arts Department

Like our freshman musical, a beloved tradition. It’s an opportunity to step up and stand out as soon as you arrive on campus.

We make the most of our location, near the world’s best art museums, galleries and performance venues in New York City, Philadelphia and Princeton … all just a short ride away on our Culture Bus.

Under the guidance of faculty mentors (many of whom are also working artists), you’ll learn to tap into your imagination and communicate in new ways. You’ll have opportunities to interact with world-class artists in private lessons, master classes and workshops. The Arts Signature Experience is an exceptional opportunity to design your own intensive project and gain hands-on experience.

We offer amazing facilities like the Mariboe Art Gallery, a black box theater, music and visual art studios, and a 535-seat auditorium with an orchestra pit. Most of which we keep open during evenings and weekends. So you can engage in the work you love, on your own schedule.

It’s no wonder that more than 300 students are involved in the arts on campus every day. Here, you can get involved with what you are passionate or just curious about.

Here, you can do things that no one (including you) expected you to do.
Arts Faculty and Enrichment Opportunities

Peddie students have wonderful creative mentors to guide them. Our eight full-time faculty are dedicated working artists and passionate classroom teachers. In addition, students have many opportunities to interact with professional artists in private music lessons, as well as master classes and workshops through the Cultural Arts and Mariboe Gallery series. For inspiration, all students may attend a wide range of arts events on campus, including exhibitions, concerts, recitals, plays, speaking contests, and screenings of National Theater Live productions. In addition, we offer a field trip to New York city art museums and galleries each trimester, and the Peddie Culture Bus trips takes interested students to such professional performances as Broadway musicals, the New York Philharmonic, and the McCarter Theater, as well as public readings and lectures at nearby Princeton University.

Arts Facilities

Since its opening in 1989, the Richard L. Swig Arts Center has served as the creative center of the Peddie campus. It is open and accessible to students throughout the class day and most evenings until 10 p.m. Swig houses an art gallery, four art studios, a digital photography and video lab, a black box performance space, a drama classroom, chorus and orchestra classrooms, and sound-proof rehearsal rooms. Next door in Geiger-Reeves Hall, the William Mount-Burke Theater houses a 535-seat auditorium, as well as a scene shop and costume, prop, and dressing rooms.
